Online bingo software companies and other offshore bingo companies will face a new licensing regime shortly, after the DCMS went public following a leaked document regarding this change and confirmed the proposals for a new regime that will govern overseas online gambling companies including internet bingo. Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe announced that any offshore gambling business that requires a customer base in the UK will need to hold a license. All offshore companies will then be subject to regulation from the UK Gambling Commission.
Take That star Gary Barlow is the latest celebrity bingo fan, after recent reports emerged about the ten year wedding anniversary party he threw for his wife Dawn. The party was hosted at Mandarin Oriental hotel, in which Gary hired a function room to host a bingo party for his wife and their star-studded guests. Famous faces at the event included Take That band mates Mark Owen and Howard Donald, as well as Cheryl Cole and her football star husband Ashley Cole to name a few. Proceeds of the bingo games were given to charity.
If you are new to online bingo, it may seem confusing to know how it all works initially. Many players are concerned about spending their money at a bingo site, especially at a new site. The good news is that with continuous advancements in technology and encryption, making a deposit at your favourite site is safe and secure. The way that encrypted pages work is by keeping confidential information on a separate server, so that not even the bingo site has complete access to this information. Payment parties are only able to access relevant information required to process your transaction, which ensures security at all times. You can tell if a payment page is encrypted by looking for the lock symbol either in the address bar or on the page, and you can look for a slight change in the link of the page in the address bar – instead of the usual http://www.bingosite.com you will see https://www.bingosite.com (the extra s indicates a secure page).
As the UK experiences its coldest winter yet, many players are turning to online bingo sites for their bingo fix, rather than braving the freezing conditions and endless snow. While some halls are remaining open, and frantically clearing snow to allow players to enter halls safely, many are still finding a huge decrease in player attendance. Buses are not running reliably and roads are covered in ice and snow, making it a challenge for players to get to their local halls easily. Besides this, many elderly players are not willing to risk venturing out into such icy conditions, and prefer playing bingo from the comfort of home.
